Last Tuesday the first rail service for the vehicles transport between Germany and the Port of Barcelona was opened. Autoterminal was one of the key players of the operation that took place at the port facilities of Barcelona Port.
The new connection is the first vehicles’ direct service between Germany and Spain, therefore it does not require transshipment or change of axes on the French border.
The train, that exits from the railway terminal of Kornwestheim, has a length of 685 meters, being the longest train of international width entering the Iberian Peninsula. In this first service, 250 vehicles were transported from Germany for its later distribution in Spain.
This international rail connection, operated by DB Cargo, has a weekly service and is scheduled to reach 3 connections per week before the end of the year.
Barcelona is the only port in the Iberian Peninsula directly connected to the European railway network.
Autoterminal is a company of Noatum Maritime and of its specialised division, Noatum Maritime Automotive, which covers all the Group’s activities related to port operations for vehicles and RoRo cargo, having handled 1,200,000 vehicles in 2017.
